We humans living in this earth but you have to agree that we aren't the only living thing.

This earth is meant for animals , birds, forests, oceans, mountains....But one question is keep on pinching me, we have 6 senses but why we don't even care about other living things which is been created along with us!

Climate change, deforestation, land slides, natural calamities etc....are the serious issues that we need to be conscious about. The reality is , we only focus on ourselves our society our bank balance our health... sometimes we don't even think about our health itself because we aren't aware of the things which is making some serious health issues.

We are at the point to think about the nature which is at very dangerous stage!!

What do we know about EIA ?

Environmental Impact Assessment - It is a policy to assess the environmental impacts of a plan/project which is about to start. Example - If a factory is to be started in any particular area in india, the respective industry should submit the environmental impacts of their project in that area and should get certified before opening the company/project from the government. It falls under the environment protection act 1986. EIA covers following ,

• Mining of coals

• Infrastructure Development

• Thermal,Nuclear, Hydro power plants

• Real estate / other industrial projects

It compares various alternative plans for project and pick the best one which fits the environment and economical benefits.

Now new draft for EIA has been introduced in 2020 so what is wrong with that?

EIA Draft 2020 - Why it matters?

Post-Facto clearance :

Project can come up without the environmental clearance and it could carry out its operation under provision of new draft EIA 2020

Once the government categorises any project as strategic , then any information related to such projects can not be placed in any public domains

All waterways and national highway projects has been excluded from public consultation

Construction projects up to 1,50,000 SQ m has been excluded from Assessment and public consultation!

Violations about any projects can only reported by government employee or project proponent and not by citizens

Public will be given a time of 30 days to understand and review about the projects before its operation but it has been reduced to 20 days

How much aggressive is this?

we are aware of recent industrial accidents which cost lots of lives even those industries are operating under existing EIA rule . But the new draft has lot of relaxations which could lead to more severe issues. Economy of the country is very important at the same time our nature and human lives also equally important, few relaxations for short term pleasure could lead to long term problems. The new drafts clearly shows we are at very critical phase that should be reconsidered if not, there could be a situation that we might need to buy and carry oxygen cylinders permanently!!

Violations about any projects can only reported by government employee or project proponent and not by citizens - How the own company will complain about their violation?? if they consume more ground water than the permitted limit then who is gonna ask about that?? if they use more chemicals? more radiations? etc...if no one given a rights to question then every thing will be out of control

Just think about our own mentality - do we stop for red signals if nobody around /if no CCTV?

All waterways and national highway projects has been excluded from public consultation- For whom these highways are being constructed?for aliens? obviously for public right, they why don't they have rights to question / consult about that? if there is no need for highway via particular way, then why it needs to be constructed?

Post-Facto clearance - This is all time high! , if a project can be operated before assessment then why do we have EIA bro?? LoL

Public will given a time of 30 days to understand and review about the projects before its operation but it has been reduced to 20 days - Great!! , why they reduced 10 days? they could give just 24 hrs right😂? why it is being rushed? can't it be waited for 30 days to be reviewed ?

Conclusion:

Rules and acts are to protect humans and environments, but if it is not making a way then there is no point of the act to be in existence!! EIA is obviously to protect the environment but new Draft EIA 2020 is derailing from its way, it needs reconsideration.
